Your AC pulls heat and water out of the cabin air using a gas called refrigerant. Your heater uses warmth from the engine coolant. When either side fails, the air from the vents is not the temperature you asked for.
We test both the AC and the heat, since they share the same vents and blower. You get an honest read on what is low, leaking, or broken, plus a firm price before any work.
Know the signs
Signs you might notice
- The AC blows cool at first, then goes warm after a while.
- The air from the vents is weak even on the high fan setting.
- The heater blows cold air after the engine is fully warm.
- You smell something musty or sour when the fan turns on.
- You hear a squeal or click from the dash when you press the AC button.
- The windshield fogs up and will not clear.
This is a general guide, not a diagnosis or repair quote. We need to inspect your car to confirm the problem and price.
What's behind it
Common causes
- A slow refrigerant leak at an O-ring, a hose, or the condenser.
- A failed AC compressor or a worn compressor clutch.
- A plugged cabin air filter choking the airflow.
- A stuck blend door, or a bad blower motor or resistor.
- A low coolant level or a clogged heater core cutting the heat.
How it works
How we handle it
You bring the car in and tell us if the trouble is with cooling, heat, airflow, or smell.
We measure the vent temperature and hook gauges to the AC to read the pressures.
We add dye or use a sniffer to find any refrigerant leak, and we check the heat side and the blower.
We fix the leak or part, recharge the AC to the exact factory amount, and retest the vent temperature.
What we check
- AC high-side and low-side pressures against the target range.
- Refrigerant charge level and any signs of leaks with dye or a detector.
- The compressor clutch, the belt, and how the compressor cycles.
- The cabin air filter and the blower motor airflow.
- Coolant level and heater core flow for the heat side.
Why this matters
A small AC leak only gets bigger, and running the system low on refrigerant can burn out the compressor, which is the priciest part. On the heat side, no defrost is a safety problem in an Ohio winter. Fixing it early keeps a cheap seal from turning into a big compressor job.
